Ever so very very very long ago I promised Sofia meta along the lines of "Smallville is awesome! HERE IS WHY" and all that and so I said I'd talk about Smallville as an expansive mythology or whatever and how it's all about the possibilty and stuff. This is that! Or at least what I managed of it, because dear lord do I ramble and it was getting entirely too long. OMGWTF, SELF.
Way back in the day when I cared about Joss-shaped things and was all over the Spike thing, I found myself in a possibly odd position. I was a bit of an evilista Spike fan (liked my Spike evil and with Drusilla and all that), but I wanted to read and discuss and get on with people that were soulless redemptionista minded. I had no real desire to see Spike “redeemed” in canon, but the things, the ideas, the interpretations and views of canon that the soulless redemptionista types presented were the ones that appealed to me. They were broader. Those ideas saw the most room and possibility within the text.
Now, the Jossverse didn’t go that way, because well that’s a thing for another time that I will never talk about because a)that train left and then blew the hell up and fell of a canyon a long time ago and b)omgwtfwaaaaaank. But the point of the above trip to hellish nostalgia (Yes, I totally am a rapist apologist! *eyeroll*), the point is I search for and love these widening ever broadening texts. These things that continually widen in possibility and ideas on themselves.
You know, I’m kind of left going “NO WORDS. NO WORDS OMG” by the lastest SGA related wank (dude, SGA is so the new freakin’ SV. All its wank is meta as fuck and sweet lord are y’all and Supernatural fandom in for some prime wank. IJS. I KNOW THESE THINGS). Because, apparently I missed some fannish memo in the four freakin’ years that I’ve been in fandom about just how these things are done?
Or, you know, I’m working with a completely different construct of what the hell we’re doing here. Which is valid; though, I admit I am kind of tempted to go “Wrong! You have forgotten the true meaning of fandom!” (Robot Chicken for the win!)
Okay, maybe an example will sort of help me explain where my brain is at on this. Once, I wrote a H/D fic called “Victory March” there was much angst emo oh em gee in it. At some point, Sofia and I were chatting about it and she goes all “this is totally where that story goes in my head” and I was all “You should write that! Even though that’s totally not even what I see in my brain!” A lot of the feedback I got on that was about the sort of abrupt bleak ending and I just sort of was like “thanks for reading um… *waves hands*” because it’s really not my place to even attempt to dictate how I think people should look at it and it makes me uncomfortable to “Dude, it just gets darker from there on out! MUAHAHAHHA!” ( talking more about this issue and the sort of thing of fandomCollapse )
In conclusion, dude I ended up grooving on The Kingdom so much just because of Iris West. She is made of awesome. I am addicted to Spider-Girl. Terry/Mayday, yo, that’s all I’m saying.
In the wake of all the VM news, I've been going through some rec posts, and I can't believe I ever missed this. Its so painful, and just so true. I love how you have Logan flit through life, and more…
i feel a bit random commenting on something you wrote four years ago but i just did a rewatch of vm and could not not tell you how much i loved this fic.
