Almost finished with a book, 65+K words and counting. Horatio meets a new lady (OC), the team works on new cases, some adult themes, references to severe sexual child abuse, violence, some language. Not for under age 13 and may develop to NC17 but don't know yet.
Need someone to help with clumsy phrasing and mostly with punctuation. Use of bloody red pen gratefully accepted.
Help!! ASAP!!

Hello!
I'm in desperate need a speedy beta for a long term relationship in the anime fandom departments. Please help me, I love writing, I love improving my writing and I'd love to not have my writing drive dragged six feet under because of a slow beta. Who ends up not really correcting my mistakes. And, appearantly, doesn't do everything usual betas do.
I've been burnt by bad betas, now I need a good one.

Join here.As opposed to the communities all over the web where every level of writing -- be it from elementary schoolers, college professors, netspeak in-text or no -- and where responses may include any amount of useful information in the response (or, heck, none at all), we at  ink_aficionados are looking to band together a particular bunch of writers. Specifically, we are looking for writers that are advanced in the craft and who want to further advance. Writers that have a good grasp on grammar and know where the spell-check button is, but may not be sure if they can capture mood well or have some troubles with smoothly revealing a character. And more than that, we are looking for writers that want to help other writers improve in these areas as well by providing thorough criticisms which are tailored to each specific work, and that point out the good, the bad, and ways to improve.

I recently found out that I scored in the 98% percentile on the Vocabulary portion of the Wexler IQ test. (better than 98% of all those who were administered the Wexler IQ test)

hi, i'm a lame writer who is aspiring to create a comic book or very intense (series?) fantasy-based book.. right. so i've never really tried a community before, or any of that. i really have a lot of the story in my head, but i can't help but get really vivid ideas for certain scenes and end up ignoring an outline.
any advice?
(and uh, I'm a loser, and I felt like writing from Ansia's perspective because she's my character and that's the easiest. if you want an explanation of characters or why Ansia is mine, feel free to comment. :D)

Planning is something I have a hard time doing, mostly just because I just don't know how to do it so I'm curious to know how you all go about planning and how detailed you get. Right now, I have two in-progress fics and one of them has no plan at all, except a vague outline scribbled in the corner of one of my pages. And I mean very vague--just a few words explaining each chapter. The other is better planned I guess, I have about four pages of backstory and what I want to happen in the fic. It's still very nonspecific though and I have no chapter outline. The irony of all of this is that I feel more comfortable writing the fic that's not planned rather than the one that is. I feel like the one that is planned should be more specific but I don't know how to go about doing that...Any advice?

OK... I don't know if anyone who reads this is going to "get" what it's about. If you've read the Tale of Turin from The Silmarillion, you should. This is actually based on the expanded version from Unfinished Tales and borrows on info about the People of Haleth from The War of the Jewels. There's also a passage of conversation I need to disclaim that comes straight from Unfinished Tales: the conversation between Neithan and the other outlaw.
On the other hand, if you're not familiar with the story, could you tell me if you still get what's going on? (And, no, it's not finished... It won't end where I've ended here.)
This is also me playing with first person, since I've never written anything in first person before.
To make things I bit clearer, I'll define a few terms:
Cabed-en-Arras is the name of a gorge in the River Teiglin. It's very high and dangerous, but narrow enough that a deer might leap across it.
Ephel Brandir is a stockaded village deep in the forest where the narrator of this story lives.
Gaurwaith is an Elven word meaning "wolf people" and is a name for the outlaws that harrass the narrator's people.
Doriath is a hidden Elven kingdom. Nargothrond is also an Elven kingdom.
Halad is another name for the leader of the narrator's people.
Noldorin refers to a branch of Elves.
Morgoth is the original Dark Lord in Tolkien-verse. Sauron of LOTR was a mere servant at the time.

So I take a week off and everyone else thinks they can too? What's up with that??? Anyone going to keep my company this week? I've got a Silmarillion-based one-shot bunny I hope to finish.
In fact, having looked back at the older entries, there are several people in this community who owe penance. Lizzie for not posting anything last week, and Tosca and Chi, you know why! So I'm expecting lots of hot goodies come Friday!
