The Indian SSLV (Small Satellite Launch Vehicle) is a small launch vehicle serving the marked below the PSLV family.
The SSLV consists of three solid fuel stages and a bi-propellant RCS/Velocity trimming module (VTM). It has a principal diameter of 2 m and a length of 34 m with a lift-off mass of ~116 t.
The first stage of 2 m diameter might be related to the Agni-3 and -5 IRBM motors, albeit extremely lengthened, or a new design. The S-7 stage is apparently inherited from the PSLV family.
The vehicle can launch dedicated payloads or multiple satellites into low earth orbit or sun-synchronous orbit. The payload will be 300 to sun synchronous orbit (SSO) and 500 kg to low earth orbit (LEO).
Initially the satellites will be launched from Satish Dhawan Space Center, Sriharikota, but beginning with the third launch, a new launch site on the Indian west coast near Gujarat is planned.
