Vireon 1 [AAC Clyde Space]
Vireon is a commercial Earth observation constellation developed by AAC Clyde Space (United Kingdom/Sweden) to provide high-resolution multispectral imagery for agriculture, forestry, and environmental monitoring. The constellation is designed to deliver affordable, application-ready geospatial data with daily revisit capability, supporting precision land management and natural capital assessment.
The constellation consists of 16U EPIC CubeSat-class satellites based on AAC Clyde Space's EPIC VIEW platform. Operating in a 500 km low Earth orbit, each satellite carries a seven-band visible and near-infrared (VNIR) multispectral imager with a ground sample distance of 1.5 m and a swath width of approximately 15 km. The spectral bands are aligned with the Sentinel-2 mission, allowing integration with existing Earth observation datasets. The satellites also feature onboard propulsion for orbit maintenance and inter-satellite links to improve tasking efficiency and reduce image delivery times as the constellation grows.
Vireon imagery is processed through AAC Clyde Space's Keystone image processing platform, which generates radiometrically and geometrically corrected orthoimages, mosaics, and analytics-ready data products. Keystone supports automated tasking, processing, and distribution workflows, offers interfaces for cloud, on-premises, and virtualized deployments, and is compatible with more than 50 satellite and airborne sensors. The platform is intended to enable direct integration of Vireon data into geographic information systems, decision-support tools, and artificial intelligence applications.
The first Vireon satellites were launched in 2026. The constellation is planned to provide global coverage with daily revisit rates over agricultural and forested regions, supporting applications including crop monitoring, forest health assessment, water resource management, environmental monitoring, and other land management activities.
