Other/historical names associated with this locality:
Bornshyttefältet; Torskebäcksfältet
Name(s) in local language(s):
Gruvåsens gruvor, Persbergs malmtrakt, Filipstad, Värmland, Sverige
Gruvåsens gruvor, also called Bornshyttefältet or Torskebäcksfältet is located N of Lilla (lake) Bjursjön and E of Lake Yngen.
The deposit is located in the Saxi syncline with slates, greywackes, greenstones, dolomites, and limestones surrounded by leptites. The mines are rather widely spread in a dolomite body.
According to Fernow (cfr. Tegengren) the mines were already operating in the 16th century but worked also in the 17th and 18th centuries. Interest in the area increased, and a dressing plant was built in 1910 at Torskebäcken, but due to a very limited amount of ore it was closed in 1917.

Geochronology
Mineralization age: Paleoproterozoic : 1723 Ma to 1715 MaImportant note: This table is based only on rock and mineral ages recorded on mindat.org for this locality and is not necessarily a complete representation of the geochronology, but does give an indication of possible mineralization events relevant to this locality. As more age information is added this table may expand in the future. A break in the table simply indicates a lack of data entered here, not necessarily a break in the geologic sequence. Grey background entries are from different, related, localities.
