Köppen climate type:
The Levant Mine is located on cliffs near Boscaswell in west Cornwall and was worked discontinuously between 1793 and 1930. The mine is host to the classic, spatially zoned Cu-Sn mineralisation, well-described from Cornwall, which led to the early workings being directed at the exploitation of copper, later followed by tin.
Primary hydrothermal Cu-Sn mineralisation at Levant is structurally controlled in a series of veins and wall-rock alteration zones, with the hydrothermal fluids interpreted to have emanated from the Land’s End Pluton, a large body of Permian S-type granite.
Although the granite hosts some mineralisation at Levant, the bulk of the exploited ore was hosted in veins and replacements of wall rock metasediments and greenstones within the aureole of the granite. The mineralised zone exploited by the mine was a volume measuring approximately 2000 × 800 × 200 m, with the ore shoots plunging 10-20° to the north-west, under the present-day seafloor. Some stopes were so close to the seafloor that boulders could apparently be heard tumbling on the seafloor during storms from the underground workings.
An extensive history of the mine is given in LEVANT by Cyril Noall.
Note on the mineral list: The reference to danalite occurring at the Levant Mine is a Kingsbury (1961) citation. Given the doubts about the provenance of other Kingsbury specimens (Ryback et al. 1998, 2001), further confirmation is required.

Geochronology
Mineralization age: Late/Upper Triassic : 212 ± 4 MaImportant note: This table is based only on rock and mineral ages recorded on mindat.org for this locality and is not necessarily a complete representation of the geochronology, but does give an indication of possible mineralization events relevant to this locality. As more age information is added this table may expand in the future. A break in the table simply indicates a lack of data entered here, not necessarily a break in the geologic sequence. Grey background entries are from different, related, localities.
