Other/historical names associated with this locality:
Menda Mine; Kasompi Hill; Katanga Copper Crescent; Zaïre
A Ni-Cu-Co deposit on Kasompi hill worked during the 1940s and 1950s. This deposit is one of a group of deposits in an area located about 100 km W of Kambove and about 35 km NW of Swambo.
Note: Menda is just a nearby village. This name is sometimes erroneously used for Kasompi.

| ⓘ Glaukosphaerite Formula: (Cu,Ni)2(CO3)(OH)2 Habit: fibers Colour: light green Fluorescence: Not fluorescent. Description: Although glaucosphaerite was first described from Australia, it had long been known from Kasompi as "kasompiite", but the name was never submitted to the nomenclature committee (Deliens, 1996).
Associated with dark green acicular malachite. References: |
| ⓘ Gysinite-(Nd) (TL) Formula: PbNd(CO3)2(OH) · H2O Type Locality: Colour: Pink. Fluorescence: Not fluorescent. Description: The mineral was identified on a single specimen mistakenly labelled as Shinkolobwe. The mineral association, however, is typical for Kasompi.
Meanwhile, many other specimens, associated with schuilingite, were found. |
| ⓘ Heterogenite Formula: Co3+O(OH) Habit: Earthy masses, usually small in size. Colour: Black. Fluorescence: Not fluorescent. References: |
| ⓘ Kasolite Formula: Pb(UO2)(SiO4) · H2O Colour: Yellow to orange. Fluorescence: Not fluorescent. |
| ⓘ Malachite Formula: Cu2(CO3)(OH)2 Colour: Banded in different shades of green. Fluorescence: Not fluorescent. |
| ⓘ Pseudomalachite Formula: Cu5(PO4)2(OH)4 Habit: Small spheres. Colour: Typical blueish-green. Fluorescence: Not fluorescent. Description: Found together with malachite and glaucosphaerite as typical blueish-green spheres. |
