Qajaran Mine; Kadzharan Mine; Kadzharan molybdenum deposit; Kadzharan Mo deposit; Kadjaran
Large porphyry copper-molybdenum deposit. Privatised in the mid-2000s, now owned by the Russian oligarch Roman Trotsenko and the cabinet of the prime minister of Armenia; previously partially owned by Cronimet Mining GmbH.
Metal content is 0.3 % Mo and 0.6 % Cu.
Within the contour of the first mining, 49 t of gold and 2749 t of silver are concentrated, and besides, the grade of the latter is 1.3 times higher than the reserves of silver counted on all gold ore deposits of Armenia as a whole. According to the latest recalculation of reserves as of 01.01.2007 in the ores of the stockwork, calculated by categories В+С1, reserves of gold make 59 t, of silver - 3314.07 t, with the predicted output of Au in copper concentrate - 3,5g/t, Ag - 75g/t. More than 80 mineral species have been identified at the deposit. Molybdenite and chalcopyrite are of industrial value.
This giant deposit is hosted by a 28.3- to 28.1-m.y.-old monzonite intrusion), located to the east of the NW-oriented Tashtun fault, and a porphyritic granite dated at 22.6 Ma. The main ore-bearing zones are at the intersections of E-W–oriented fractures and NE-oriented fractures. The latest can be traced for hundreds of meters along strike. They are filled with clay gouge and underwent multiple displacement events, including reverse faulting with a strike-slip component. The majority of the ore-bearing stockwork zones of the Kadjaran deposit contain millimeter-scale and up to 5-cm-thick veins, with some reaching a length of several tens of meters. The Schlorkut area in the southeastern part of the open pit consists of Cu-rich veins with epithermal characteristics, which crosscut 22.2- to 22.1-m.y.-old porphyritic granodiorite dikes.
