Pyrargyrite Mine

A silver mine near the base of Mt. Chopaka.

Mineralization is sparsely scattered grains in a quartz fissure vein in a shear zone in granodiorite.

Workings include 1,300 feet of adits and 4,700 feet of drifts, raises and crosscuts.

It produced during the periods 1915-1920, 1922-1923, and in 1939.
Structure: The Quartz Monzonite Was Probably Emplaced In A Magmatic Arc.

Deposit: The mine was developed by at least 5000 feet of underground workings and several stopes. The main adit intersects the vein at 950 feet from the portal and 550 feet betneath the outcrop. A 75-ton/day mill was built at the site in 1920 (moen, 1976, p. 121). ; info.src : 1 pub lit

Geology: The vein is in a shear zone in granodiorite of jurassic-cretaceous(?) age (rinehart and fox, 1972).

Rock formation(s): Anderson Creek Pluton

Ore(s): The Fissure Quartz Veinis In A Shear Zone In Granodiorite; The Zone Strikes N45w And Dips 42sw. Ore Minerals Occur As Sparsely Scattered Grains In The Vein (Moen, 1976, P. 121).
