A large saline lake and associated saline and brackish marshes on the southeastern edge of the Qiangtang basin. The lake is fed by streams from the Nyainqentanghla mountains to the south. The lake was formerly much larger in size, but is now in the process of drying out.

Nam Co is the biggest salt lake of Tibet. Its surface area approximates 700 square miles (1813 square km) and straddles the border of Damxung and Baingoin counties. Both the Tibetan name, "Nam Co", and the Mongolian name, "Tengri Nor", translate to "Heavenly Lake".

Located about 120 km NW of Lhasa, 15,186 ft. (4629 m) above sea level.
