Three Friends Mine

A former copper-manganese mine located near Black and White Lakes on the West slope of Mount Gladys. It worked 3 lenses along the contact of basalt with phyllite graywacke. Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of a 200-foot adit, a 40-foot shaft, and several open cuts and pits. It produced ore in 1915.
Tectonics: Host Rocks Of Manganese Deposits Of The Olympic Penninsula Formed At An Ocean Ridge Or In A Back Arc Basin At The Active Margin Of The North American Plate (Garrison, 1973; Snavely, 1987, P. 306-309)

Geology: The principal country rocks in the area are altered basalts and argillite, graywacke, limestone, and some phyllite. Near kidney (white and black) lakes, they trend approximately n20e and dip steeply eastward.
