Brown Mule Mine; McKean Mine; Black Copper Mine

Located 0.25 mile (0.4 km) up Copper Creek from the North Fork Skokomish River, on the N bank of Copper Creek, near the NW corner of Lake Cushman.

The mine worked a lens shaped orebody in red limestone about 1 foot from its contact with basalt. The limestone is part of the Eocene Crescent Formation.

It produced one carload of ore during World War I.
Tectonics: Active Margin (Leading Edge Of North American Plate)

Deposit: Ore body is about 1.5 ft thick, 70 ft long, and 30 ft wide. It is in red limestone about 1 ft from its contact with pillow basalt. Other small masses of manganiferous rock have been uncovered in pits along copper creek to the southwest. They are on the strike of the main body, but continuity has not been determined. Ore body grades into limestone to southwest see also mrds record m700335

Deposit type: Volcanogenic Mn, Olympic Peninsula

Rock formation(s): Crescent Formation;Crescent Formation

Ore(s): Ore Is Near Basalt-Limestone Contact
