Following the reorganisation of 1996, the Unitary Authorities of Flintshire, Denbighshire and Wrexham were formed from part of the administrative county of Clwyd.

Clwyd was itself only formed during the 1974 administrative reorganisation and incorporated the traditional counties of Denbighshire and Flintshire plus part of Merionethshire, all date back to the middle ages.

It should be noted that the new boundaries of the Flintshire Unitary Authority are now somewhat different from those of the historic county of Flintshire.

Specimens from locations within this section may be labeled as coming from Flintshire or Clwyd depending upon the time they were collected.
