Ancienne mine de Charrier

Former copper and tin mine, located near Charrier, about 12 km SE of Le Mayet-de-Montagne. This VMS deposit is complex: 10 stockwerks (copper and tin ores) are included in a mixture of volcano-sedimentary rocks (tuffs, andesites, sandstones, quartzites, and shales) metamorphised by a leucogranite intrusion. These stockwerks are cut by baryte veins with galena and sphalerite. It was worked intermittently from 1870 until 1953, with a total output of 1000 tons of copper and 750 tons of tin. Almost 6 tons of silver have been produced sporadically from 1872 to 1945. When the mine closed in 1953, most miners were employed at the Limouzat Mine which had just opened a few miles away.
