Site of the renowned Man Engine House recently restored by the Mining Heritage Trust of Ireland.
The mine waste immediately outside of Allihies village is derived from this mine.
The large stopes, open to surface, have long been noted for fine crystalline crusts of langite and brochantite that have formed after the mine was abandoned. The langite, however, is prone to dehydrate to light blue posnjackite if stored in too dry an environment.
The water in the stopes has been fouled by illegal dumping of domestic refuse from as far away as Cork city.
