This mine was opened around 1815 but then abandoned in the 1820s due to a lack of appropriate machinery.
The site was opened again in 1836 by the Mining Company of Ireland but was all but abandoned in 1846 due to a dispute with the local landowner over further development. Minor extraction took place up until 1855. During the period of 1838 to 1846, some 3,000 tons of galena were extracted.
More recent exploration by Aquitaine Mining in the 1980s found thin stratiform arsenopyrite-pyrite-quartz veins in the vicinity of the Caim deposit.
The remaining dumps contain cerussite crystals with occasional linarite, found by breaking open iron-stained rocks.
