Köppen climate type:
An abandoned mine.
The mine was named after the flying fox cableway, used to get the ore down from the mountain side. A small dump can be seen on the upper eastern slopes of Mount Powell. No track reaches to anywhere near the mine.
The pegmatite is vertical dipping, 20-25 feet thick. It has a zone 2 feet wide of fine grained quartz-feldspar with some mica, either side of a 20 foot wide quartz-feldspar core. The mica was mined via two open cuts. There are several other small pegmatites in the vicinity.
The mine was operational for only two years, producing 242 lbs of mica in 1956, and 367 lbs in 1957.
