Waushara County is largely covered by glacial sediments - till, outwash and loess. A few outliers of Precambrian granite are known, especially in and near the town of Redgranite, where they were quarried for building stone. Although the red granite that is Wisconsin's official state rock is quarried in the Wausau area, the granite in this area is similar. Cambrian quartz sandstones are the other, rarely exposed, bedrock. The glacial drift can yield some interesting minerals such as float copper and "Lake Superior" agates.
