Dorozhnyi, Khan Bogdo

Khan Bogdo is the largest alkaline granite massif in the world, about 100 km in diameter. Of course, it contains hundreds of pegmatites of different sizes and dykes of eakerite and other alkaline rocks and hydrothermalites (which often are confused with pegmatites).

Why does everybody, who has any sample from Khan Bogdo, consider that their specimen is exactly from Dorozhnyi pegmatite??? Yes, it is the most well-known pegmatite of the massif, because 3 new minerals were discovered in it, but it isn't (not by far!) the only pegmatite of the massif!

Dorozhnyi pegmatite is a small pegmatite that was completely damaged by the end of the 1970s because it was very accessible - located close to the road (Dorozhnyi means "located along a road" in Russian). Moreover, during the last couple of tens of years the pegmatite is buried under sand dune and completely invisible under a sand layer about 5 m thick (N.V. Vladykin data). So the appearance of new material from here, supposedly collected in the 1990s-2000s, is very questionable.

Dear friends, please switch on your brains and stop labeling ANY Khan Bogdo specimen as coming from the Dorozhnyi pegmatite! Try to imagine the size of this massif as equal to three-four New Yorks. Why should any sample from "New York" be labeled as coming "from Manhattan"? Only because everyone had listed theirs as coming from there?

Not any single pegmatite of Khan Bogdo massif, even the one located right in the middle of the road, is the Dorozhnyi pegmatite!!!
