Northern Gold Mine
A gold mine north of Toroda near the Canadian Border. It was developed by several thousand feet of workings on 4 levels.
Tectonics: These Rocks Were Deposited In The Torada Creek Graben, A Volcano-Tectonic Depression That Was The Result Of East-West Extension In The Eocene (Holder And Others, 1989).
Deposit: Most of the mining took place on the bodie no. 1 claim. At least 10,000 feet of underground work on five main crosscut adits penetrate the breccia and intersect the vein. A glory hole mined rich parts of the bodie vein at the surface (moen, 1980, p. 74). ; info.src : 1 pub lit
Geology: The deposit is in the klondike mountain formation. Whole-rock geochemistry suggests that the rock is a rhyolite; however, thin section work by stoffel (1990) suggests that altered mafic minerals were oringinally pyroxenes and that the high silica content of the rock may be due to the addition of silica in the form of stringers and veinlets.
