Goma, the capital of North Kiwu, is the generic locality usually indicated in the past years by mineral dealers for tourmalines from the Kivus (including the high-quality tourmalines from Rukaza-Rubaya, Bahunde, Masisi Territory, North Kiwu). In fact, Goma is practically the confluence point of all tourmaline gem rough mined in both North and South Kiwu, from where it is generally illegally exported through Rwanda.
