One of the major sapphire deposits in the region. The main site (24°24'46.50"S/46°30'22.86"E) was mined on a semi-industrial scale in the late 1990s (by Nantin Ltd. of Malaysia and artisanal local workers). The whole site of sapphire diggings is approximately 1000m long and up to 150m wide, the overall strike is approximately N10°. The local miners follow narrow, subhorizontal plagioclasite veins in weathered "cipolin", a humite group-phlogopite rich marble, or dig for eluvial sapphires.
