The Amboasary District, especially the area north of the town Amboasary and on the eastern side of the river Mandrare - from Behara to Esira- is famous for its many thorianite and phlogopite deposits.
This area has been named (in French) L'Androy Mandraréen in earlier maps and writings. Today, the name Androy (stricto sensu) is the name of the area and the administrative region west of the river Mandrare.
Thus, the name "L'Androy Mandraréen" does not refer to the Androy region but to the northern area in the Amboasary district.
NOTE:
Old (and newer) labels with minerals from the Anosy region can have a reference to Androy (ex. locality, Androy, Fort Dauphin)- thus meaning "L'Androy Mandraréen" and not the Androy Region.

Geochronology
Mineralization age: Mesoarchean to Ordovician : 3020 ± 50 Ma to 480 ± 20 MaImportant note: This table is based only on rock and mineral ages recorded on mindat.org for this locality and is not necessarily a complete representation of the geochronology, but does give an indication of possible mineralization events relevant to this locality. As more age information is added this table may expand in the future. A break in the table simply indicates a lack of data entered here, not necessarily a break in the geologic sequence. Grey background entries are from different, related, localities.
