The second known grandidierite locality in Madagascar. The locality was found by F. Pigneguy in July 1956 during exploration for uranium in the upper Mandrare Valley (Haute Mandrare). There was already a small mica prospect at the site when the grandidierite was discovered. Several large blocks with phlogopite mica and a bluish-green mineral occurred at the site.
The bluish-green mineral which occurred as grains and elongated crystals was analyzed by Museum d'Histoire Naturelle, France and found to be grandidierite (Behier 1957, 1960).
