Mesothermal ‘invisible’ gold mineralization in the Neoproterozoic Saldania Belt. The mineralization is hosted by a sequence of monotonous mica and
chlorite-schists, carbonates and mafic to ultramafic rocks in the Swartland Terrane and have been regionally metamorphosed to lower greenschist facies.
Thin quartz veins and the immediate wall rock surrounding these veins host the sulphide mineralization and associated submicroscopic gold.
Note on the mineral list: Belcher et al. (2004) also mention very fine-grained mercury-bearing sulphides, antimony and silver minerals, and platinum-bearing minerals.
