Mantamaru
Like Blackstone and Wingellina, the Jamieson indigenous community was established near a 1950s mining camp, in this case, Southwestern Mining, who were investigating nickel at the site.
The green in chrysoprase comes from nickel so it is thought the deposit is near the community, and several small excavations can be seen a short distance away, but it needs confirmation.
Permits are required to enter the region. Rare specimens have been seen either from several decades ago when access was available to this remote place, or sold by the local community, although this rarely happens. See the sub-heading for the coordinates of the community.
The chrysoprase occurrence site is culturally sensitive and access is currently prohibited.
