The lease for this mine was surrendered in 2000, and is now abandoned. Located 19 kilometres east south-east of the Yinnietharra Homestead, in rough and difficult to access country.
It is a rose quartz and amethyst bearing pegmatite. In 1997, Aurich Pty Ltd (Austgems International NL) trenched five costeans across the outcrop to four metres deep, exposing amethyst and rose quartz in two veins. The veins ranged in thickness from 5 to 35 centimetres in thickness, and 120 metres in length.
The veins increased in density at depth, indicating more material below the trenches. The quartz was said to exhibit a cockscomb texture with the purple colour increasing towards the centre of the veins.
The reference states funding was not able to be obtained and the venture was abandoned. However, Western Australian mineral dealers are selling rose quartz specimens from the site. It is of decent quality, but not as intense a pink as overseas material on the market. A dealer advised 1000 tonnes was mined for the specimen trade, and those seeking rocks exuding positive energy.
For those wanting specimens specifically from this location, the amount mined should outlast demand for the rest of human civilization.
