Plattas Alvas Mine, Ausserferrera (Farera), Val Ferrera (Ferreratal), Hinterrheintal, Graubünden (Grisons; Grischun; Grigioni), Schweiz (Suisse; Svizzera)

Iron (siderite) mine, active with many interruptions between the 16th and the 19th century, located at an altitude of 2160 m south-southeast of Alp Sut Fuina (1880 m). Swiss coordinates: 755.200/157.100; 2160 m.

The mineralised veins, embedded in augen gneisses belonging to the pre-Triassic basement (Roffna Porhyry Complex) of the Surreta nappe, mostly consist of manganoan siderite and ankerite with accessory hematite. Pyrite and chalcopyrite are rare accessories. Alkaline skarn-like quartz + green aegirine + hematite rocks occur as lenses and layers at the contact between some veins and the hosting gneiss, as lenses within the ore, or as veinlets cross-cutting the ore.

Note: Some authors improperly indicate this mine as "Sut Fuina mine", after the nearby Alp Sut Fuina, where the iron ores from Fianel and Plattas Alvas (hematite and siderite respectively) were transported (and in the period 1806-27 also roasted in two furnaces). The Romansh toponym Alp Sut Fuina (from Latin "sub fodinam") means "alp below the mine".
