Mucketty mining area

The Bootu Creek Manganese Mine is located 110 km (125 km according to other sources) north of Tennant Creek, on the Banka Banka pastoral station.
Open-pit mining started in 2005.
The mineralisation is stratabound.

Total resource for the Bootu Creek area of 11 000 000 t @ 26%Mn with an 18% cut off had been defined. The Attack Creek Formation is about 330 m thick in the vicinity of the Bootu mine and consists of dolostone, limestone, thinly bedded siltstone and mudstone, chert and some beds of intraformational conglomerate. The mineralised intervals in these seams typically vary in width and consist of 2–6 m-thick, massive, relatively high-grade (>28% Mn), footwall ore zones, overlain by similar widths of low- to medium-grade (14–28% Mn) mineralised sandstone.
