Submarine volcanogenic iron oxide (SVIO) deposit containing large-scale Zn and medium-scale Au resources. Large-scale Fe (185 Mt, with average grade of 35.06%), large-scale Zn (1.49 Mt, with average grade of 1.26%) and medium-scale Au resources (27.1 t, with average grade of 0.4 g/t). 25 iron orebodies, 20 zinc orebodies and 6 gold orebodies.
The Dunde deposit is located near the ridge of the Awulale Mountains, the north of which is covered by large glaciers. The volcanic rocks exposed in the southern part of the ore district belong to the Dahalajunshan Group and include dacite, andesite, dacite crystal tuff, basaltic tuff, and andesite tuff. Potash feldspar granite and a small number of diabase dikes intrude into the volcanic rocks southwest of the deposit. Seven Fe-Zn orebodies were found in the Dunde deposit. Three were exposed in the west and four were underground in the east. The four orebodies in the east contain most of the Fe and Zn resources of the deposit and have strong prospects for deep prospecting. These iron–zinc orebodies occur as plates, lenses or irregular shapes in the late Carboniferous dacite, basalt tuff, and andesite tuff. The deposit was considered to form at 296–314 Ma based on garnet U-Pb dating. The iron ore reserves were 185 Mt, with an average grade of 35.1 %, and the zinc reserves were 1.5 Mt, with an average grade of 1.26 %. The formation of the Dunde deposit is divided into skarn and supergene periods, and the skarn period is further divided into prograde, retrograde, sulfide, and carbonate stages.
