Antimony deposit discovered in 1970. The Senator antimony mine (open-cast pit worked in 1972-1973, with an exploration programme carried out in 1974) is situated approximately 20 km west of Kütahya and some 350 km south of Istanbul, in Western Turkey.
The mineralisation occurs in a series of volcanic complexes within Neogene strata. The main ore is Sb oxides; stibnite occurs only as very rare relics.
In contrast, in the area to the south-east of the main Senator Mine workings, veins generally carry fresh stibnite as the major Sb mineral, with only minor amounts of stibiconite.

These mineralisations are genetically closely related to the Illica hot spring centre (with travertine deposits), which is located some 25 km north of the town of Kütahya.
