The Amajuba District is not well known for producing collectable mineral specimens. The area consists of Palaeozoic sedimentary rocks and the only economic mineral currently of interest is coal.

The Aleta mine is a defunct operation and gained fame for allegedly producing an ammonite fossil. However:

The Aletta mine paleo page https://www.mindat.org/paleo_loc.php?id=35682 refers to a cephalopod described by Teichert, C. and Rilett, M. (1974). Revision of Permian Ecca Series cephalopods, Natal South Africa. Univ. Kansas, Palaeont. Contribution paper 68, 1-7, figs. 1-2, 1 plate.

This ammonite was shortly thereafter proven to be "allochtonous" not from the alleged geological formation, nor the Aletta mine: McLachlan, I.R. (1974). An investigation of the Lower Permian Middle Ecca ammonite locality at Alleta, Natal. Palaeontologica Africana 20, 53-63. He showed the fossil to be Early Triassic / Early Jurassic, from an unknown locality outside of South Africa.
