Köppen climate type:
Carbonaceous Chondrite (CM2)
Fall, Jun 1890; 105 g
After the appearance of a bolide, three stones fell and fragments of a single impact-shattered piece were preserved. Nawapali is one of only 15 witnessed CM chondrite falls, but as a very small CM meteorite it has received very little specific mineralogical attention in readily available literature.
CM (Mighei-like) chondrites are characterized by their elemental abundances, oxygen-isotope rations, and (usually hydrated) phyllosilicate-rich textures. They are the most abundant of the 8 geochemically defined Carbonaceous Chondrite groups.
Most of the Nawapali mass (73 g) is held at the Geological Survey of India (Calcutta).
