Pallasite, Main group (PMG)
Found 1906, 110 grams [remaining]

A meteorite fragment (~ 3 kg) was found along a walkway beside the Lahn River, but most of its mass was later lost during an air attack. The surviving mass was eventually culled from a pile of 'pseudo-meteorites' by Harvey Nininger during a visit and soon became a focus of scientific interest. Consisting of an assemblage of usually olivine crystals (Fa12.5) surrounded by swathing Kamacite along with with plessitic intergrowths of kamacite and taenite in the centers of metallic regions, Marburg appears to be a main group pallasite with its metal content of 11% Ni. Bulk composition is naturally dominated by the Fe-Ni metal ~63wt% and Olivine (35wt%). While a few olivine crystals have been fragmented, Miramar's dark and round olivine crystals (up to 1 cm diameter) are in the main conspicuously well formed. Troilite, often bordering olivine, and lesser amounts of schreibersite account for almost all of the remaining 2%. In addition, very small amounts of limonite, often replacing troilite, are due to moderate weathering.
