Located at the southern end of the lode, the mine was subsequently swallowed up by the modern Caldedonian pit.

Mining started around 1895 by an Adelaide syndicate. The reef was 4 feet wide but at depth widened to 8 feet. The shaft was down to 69 feet at this point. The lease was 12 acres. Crushings were found to 1897 then dries up until 1900, being a typical history of other mines on the field.

In 1900, the New Year Company took out a 6 month option over the New Caledonian and Caledonian North leases, adjoining the New Year lease to the north. Active mining took place over this time, but the company abandoned the option after the 6 month expiry period. Also at the time the company erected a 10 head battery and sunk a new main shaft on its New Year lease. The company was also floated at this time.

At some point it appears the company joined forces with the Aberfoyle mine elsewhere on the field, as in one source it is called New Year and Aberfoyle Consols. By the end of 1901 the company was in liquidation. At least one shareholder 10 months later complained shareholders had been asked to contribute money to reconstruct the company. If this did not go ahead, they were promised a refund of this money, however the shareholder was still waiting for his funds. We suspect he may still be waiting.
