Gutzmer et al (2003) describe mineral inclusions in quartz crystals from this locality and a road cutting on the adjacent Bosch Aar farm. The quartz occurs in veins and pods contained in the Paleoproterozoic Ongeluk Formation that consists of massive basaltic andesites, pillow lavas and hyaloclastites.
