Just past the most eastern branch of the Mosquito Creek, and about one kilometre before the Skull Springs Road passes between two large hills, a track heads south south-east, to varying degrees following the creek. Several mines and prospectors shacks are found along this track south for about 5 kilometres. Access could be blocked, and leases likely are active.
Just after the first creek crossing are two shacks, representing the Rattler mine. Little mining activity could be seen, and an on the ground inspection is needed. Active in 1905, with 29.5 tonnes of ore crushed for 58.19 ounces of gold in November. It is reported early 1906 a further 6.30 ounces was obtained from the sands, GML 150, and on quartz claim 347, also part of GML 150, 35 tonnes of ore for 37.18 ounces. It also notes the workings had been abandoned. In 1908, 5.50 tonnes of ore for 11.54 ounces. This all indicates a very small mining presence.
Gibb-Maitland inspected the site around 1908. GML 130, formerly GML 93 he states and at odds with the above source. 12 acres. Abandoned when visited. The mine consists of two parallel reefs at the summit and flanks of a hill. At the base of the hill is a tunnel 70 feet long.
In 1935, George Simpson, Karragullen orchardist and part time gold miner, took over the Rattler and Parnell leases, erecting a battery on the latter.
The track continues south, following gullies between steep hills. Tracks appear to head south south-west into rugged country and possible historic workings. At this point is a structure, although its purpose is unclear and needs an on the ground inspection. It is assumed this relates to the Bellevue mine. The track continues south south-east to a prospectors shack, and other equipment representing the Mosquito Creek mining centre, with historic workings along a ridge to the east, and the Off Chance and Lands End mines also in the vicinity.
