Actually the original mine at the Parnell group, rather than the Parnell Gold Mine itself, under which more information can be found on Mindat. Gold was discovered at the location by Nicholls and Walsh (surnames) around 1899, and applied for a reward lease. It was proven not the richest mine in the area. Activity was only found in 1899 and 1900.
RC 74L. 11 acres. Three shafts had been sunk in the north-east section of the lease. The northern most was 100 feet down on a bunchy and irregular reef, 8 foot wide in places, along a shear plane in schist. A few feet to the south-west are two further shafts to a depth of 70 feet, on a reef 10 feet thick, but expired at depth. Despite the lack of reports found, Gibb-Maitland states the mine achieved consistent returns, and warrants further investigation.
