About one kilometre south of Nullagine, a rough track heads south-east from the Nullagine-Newman Road. After about another one kilometre the track ends at a north-south trending range of low hills. At the base of this, on the flats, is a line of north-east to south-west shafts representing the Victory line of lode.
Victory East Extended was developed from around 1896 by prospectors Meldrum and party, sinking a shaft to the water level at 135 feet. The heavy inflow of water, saw one of the prospectors, Walter Higgs, head to Melbourne to purchase a pumping plant. It did not achieve its purpose, and the mine was sold late 1897.
Tasmanian company, West Volunteer Extended, purchased the mine, and worked it for twelve months but could not make it pay. This was despite a rich discovery shortly after the purchase of lumps of gold the size of a mans fist. Mine manager was George Digney.
In 1900, the mine was being worked by Aikman and party, and that was the last information found.
The shaft had been sunk through sandstone and slate to 80 feet, then diorite below this where the reef became more solid. The reef was bluish quartz with pyrite cubes, lenticular from 12 to 30 inches wide. There was a 2 inch seam of pug (clay) to the surface carrying fine gold. The gold in the mine was rarely visible to the naked eye.
Another shaft had been sunk 200 feet to the south south-west to 65 feet deep. Near the north north-east boundary was a third shaft to 60 feet deep. 12 acres.
