Type locality for the Muon-Nong (a.k.a. "layered") type Australasian tektites. This locality is within the wider Australasian tektite strewn field extending across Southeast Asia, Australia, the Indian Ocean and Antarctica.
A study by Sieh et al. (2019) proposes that the Bolaven Plateau (~150 km SW of Muong Nong)is the site of the Australasian impact structure, yet further investigation is needed to determine the true impact site.
