Köppen climate type:
A small village community located near the Harts Range some 215kms North-East of Alice Springs.
An interesting aspect of this small community is that the street names are all mineralogical in nature: i.e.: Quartz St, Garnet St; Mica Rd; Zircon St; and Sunstone St.
Several mines on the slopes of Mount Palmer, have been listed separately under Mount Palmer. The Spotted Tiger campground is 8 kilometres south of Atitjere, which is basic public bush camping. The mines both for Mount Palmer and Atitjere can be accessed from the campground with a 4 wheel drive, and in some cases walking. The area is mountainous, rugged, largely waterless, and care should be taken. Most of the locations for both sub-headings are small mica mines, operating sporadically from 1890 to 1960. The dumps may contain gemstones.
