An old silver mine, started in 1506 and worked intermittently until 1590. It was re-opened in 1858, but not restarted, and prospected again between 1907 and 1908. Production peaked between 1577 and 1581, after rich ores had been discovered while driving a drainage adit.

The deposit cosnists of baryte veins with silver and copper ores that are hosted in diorite and gabbro. They were opened up from a single shaft that connects to three levels. Some overgrown dumps remain on the east slope of Silberberg hill, northeast of Nieder-Modau.
