An oceanic arc basin in which active seafloor spreading occurs along two north-south ridge systems.
The North Fiji Basin is a back-arc basin that has been active since ca. 12 Ma, and is divided into four spreading segments (N160, N15, N–S, and 174E) from north to south between 16°S and 22°S. In particular, the Fiji Triple Junction (FTJ) formed at the intersection of the northernmost segment (N160) and ridge segment N15.
