An occurrence of rare earths and thorium contained within the mineral monazite is present on the farm east of the homestead.
The monazite occurs within porphyroblastic granite of the posttectonic Bloukop Granite of the Spektakel Suite and forms only minor quantities. Quartz, microcline, microclineperthite, biotite, zircon, garnet (almandine) and magnetite comprise the mineral assemblage of the granite and the monazite consists of small, rounded, colourless grains in concentrically arranged biotite aggregates. Metasomatism is thought to have played a role in the
genesis of the monazite (Cole, 2013).
