A northeast-trending satellite zone in the gypsum field, at least 24 km long and extends westwards, is centered on Komkans and mostly overlies gneisses of the Louisrus Formation and the Little Namaqualand Suite, which contain pyrite but lack limestones. However, calcrete is commonly present and may have
formed a source for calcium.

It has been suggested that calcium carbonate and pyrite in schist immediately northeast of this satellite area, in rocks later mapped as the Boegoekom Formation, were the source of calcium sulphate solutions. These solutions migrated in groundwater southwestwards along the Klein Goerap River Valley where they were responsible for the precipitation of gypsum in the northeastern part of this satellite gypsum field (Cole, 2013).
