Lignite was first discovered in a well, sunk in 1916, in Cenozoic sediments on the farm Kalkgat 162, roughly 6 km east Karoovlei 454 farm, but the locality can no longer be determined (Cole, 2013).
Note: Co-ordinates placed central to the kaolin and lignite deposits.
