A northwest-trending deposit of limonite- goethite- and haematite-rich ore was discovered from drilling on farm 626.
The deposit is 1 000 m x 150 m in areal extent and 2 m thick (maximum 6,5 m), grading down into a series of pyrite stringers within phyllite, schist and
quartzite of the Aties Formation. A major Pan-African northwest-trending fault is present, as indicated by abundant quartz veins and fault breccia within the gossan and it is likely that supergene enrichment of the ore, following leaching and oxidation of the pyrite from descending solutions, was
enhanced by the permeable fault zone.
The ore also contained 248 ppm zinc, which was probably leached from sphalerite within the phyllite and schist of the Aties Formation (Cole, 2013).
