Niukutoudong
The Niukutou Pb-Zn skarn deposit is located in the eastern part of the Qimantagh metallogenic belt and comprises three ore blocks (or magnetic anomalies) referred to as M1, M4, and M2, from west to east. The Pb-Zn mineralization crops out within the M1 and M4 ore blocks, with the resources being more than 1.14 million tons.
The strata in the mining district consist of the Qimantagh Group (mainly marble, limestone, mudstone and siltstone) and Quaternary. Two magmatic events occurred in the Niukutou mining district, namely, the Hercynian granitoids and the Indosinian monzogranite, and the Pb-Zn and Co mineralization in the Niukutou deposit is closely associated with the Indosinian monzogranite. The measured resources in the M1 and M4 zones include 1.15 million tons of Zn + Pb, with average grade of Pb and Zn of 1.89 % and 2.75 %, respectively, 1.89 million tons of Fe with average grade of Fe of 33.68 %. The M2 zone is still under general exploration. The alterations in M1 and M4 are similar and can be divided into the following zones from top to bottom: marble, retrograde skarn, prograde skarn, hornfels, and granite zones. Stratified/veined ore bodies mainly occur in skarns, with Fe-Cu sulfide ore body (No. 5 ore body) prevalent in the lower sections and Pb-Zn sulfide ore body (No. 1 ore body) in the upper sections.
All fresh samples in this study were collected from the Devonian intermediate–felsic intrusive rocks directly associated with ore formation. Petrographically, the granite porphyry is yellowish-white and has a massive structure, with a porphyritic texture defined by phenocrysts of alkali feldspar and quartz set in a microcrystalline groundmass.
