Kong Bore is situated about 10km west of Mt Riddock Homestead, off the Plenty Highway

Track heads south two kilometres in a straight line ending at the bore. Discontinuous mica workings extend immediately south of the bore into low hills for approximately 2 kilometres.

The Kong bore area is the only place in the world where reticulated Rainbow Lattice Sunstone is found, especially at the Rainbow Caterpillar mine. The true sunstone is a quite pure microcline with lattice-like to triangular and hexagonal inclusions, probably iron oxides and maybe micas. There seems to be a mixture of material being sold under this name, and more testing is underway. XRD analysis on some material sold under this name indicates beryl (R. Bottrill).
