The strata exposed in the ore district comprise the Paleoproterozoic GXF of the Liaohe Group, the Mesoproterozoic Yushulazi Formation, and Quaternary cover, the Northern Liaohe Group consists chiefly of clastic and carbonate rocks, whereas the Southern Liaohe Group is rich in metavolcanic rocks. The GXF, at the top of the Liaohe Group, is divided into two lithological members and is in angular unconformity contact with the overlying Yushulazi Formation. The second member of the GXF, which hosts the gold orebodies, dominates the ore district and consists mainly of sericite phyllite, together with chlorite–sericite phyllite and quartz–sericite phyllite. the mineralization process can be divided into four stages: (1) the Qtz ± Py stage (Stage I); (2) the Qtz + Py + Po ± Ccp stage (Stage II); (3) the Qtz + Py ± Gn ± Sp ± Po ± Ccp stage (Stage III); and (4) the Qtz + Cal ± Fl stage (Stage IV).
